History and Role
The president of Bolivia, officially known as the president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, is the head of state and head of government. The president is directly elected to a five-year term by the Bolivian people and can serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.
Current President
Evo Morales is the current president of Bolivia. He was born to a subsistence farmer in the Cochabamba region and is believed to be of indigenous descent. Morales was first elected in 2006 and has served three consecutive terms.

The president of Bolivia is responsible for:
- Enacting and enforcing laws
- Representing Bolivia in international affairs
- Appointing cabinet members and other top officials
- Commanding the armed forces
- Declaring war and making peace
- Granting pardons
